The Outsiders

They say you’re never alone as long as you have people around.
I beg to differ.

I was just fine having my family. And plenty of time to myself.

It wasn’t until The Outsiders were introduced.

I would share with them a part of me. Only for them to take off and leave with it.

I even cared for some of The Outsiders.

Their lives either ended too soon or their parents uprooted them to another state.

I even loved some of The Outsiders. They were the ones who caused the most pain.

These Outsiders would turn their feelings on and off as they pleased. This was hard to accept when my feelings were always on.
I never felt so alone in my life.

The more Outsiders I seem to let in, the more alone I seem to feel.

They say you’re never alone as long as you have people around.

As long as those people aren’t The Outsiders.

Oh No, Please, Don’t Pick Up Your Shoes

What is chaos?  I’m glad you asked.

Chaos is the world around me.  I want things done a certain way.  I want things in their designated places.  Oh, but everyone does not share the same passion for organizing that I have. Enter chaos.

If this is you…seek help from a professional Organizationologist STAT!

Exhibit A: Shoes in the middle of the floor. Nothing in my mind says that smack dab in the floor’s center should lie a pair of shoes.

Exhibit B: Empty cartons, boxes, bags, etc. strategically placed back in their spots. (NOW you know how to pick things up.)

Exhibit C: Lights, Camera, Action! More like Lights, Television, Tablet! Every possible object powered be electricity or battery will be on in the room …simultaneously…occupied by none other than no one!

Looking for something in a chaotic room is just like trying to find Waldo.

Exhibit D: I can’t find my… Fill in the blank with anything. Yes, anything and everything that is absolutely important to your current survival needs.  Of course you can’t find anything, because you put everything everywhere.

This is just the minor levels of chaos I encounter on a regular daily basis. What brings about chaos in your life? Feel free to share in the comments!

Life Lesson: Try Not to Lose What is Hard to Find

I hate when I lose things. Especially when it is something that is hard to find once it is lost. Things, I can honestly say I don’t lose too often. My brain is pretty good at keeping up with things, but what it struggles with are my emotions, feelings, and thoughts.
I seem to lose my temper, my mind, my train of thought, my way, my patience, and my confidence without blinking! And of course those are the things that seem like only Jesus Himself can return to me. I can’t ever seem to find them on my own!

I know each of these”losses” are all a matter of changing my habits and my perception. I’m working on that. It’s just the one that seems out of reach is my confidence. I can’t even backtrack my steps to figure out exactly where I lost it! I know the loss of of my confidence was a long gradual process, and it will be a long gradual process to get it back.
This journey to rebuild myself, and locate all of those feelings, thoughts, and emotions that remain at large, is definitely a difficult one. It seems as if once progress is made in one department a regression is unfolding in another. I consider giving up on a daily bases, but for now I am still on this wild goose chase of a journey to rebuild myself!

Changing Your Personal Interpretation: Keys to Better Understanding

image

I have to admit. I love the one word Daily Prompts.  Why?  Because I enjoy pulling words apart and learning more about its meaning. I also feel the power and impact one word is capable of possessing. Each day writers create beautiful peices surrounding one word. Bloggers have been driven by one word. One word that gives birth to poems that reach our souls. One word is capable of creating a moving story or entertaining tale. One word can make a change in your life.

Today’s word is understanding. Dictionary.com uses “personal interpretation” as part of its definition of the word. Personal interpretation is as simple as it reads. A person’s interpretation of fill in the blank. The way you see it.  How you understand it to be.

image

People have been dealing with other people since people have been people. Somehow this has not changed the fact that we still cannot get along.  The reason being…understanding.  Remember that dictionary.com definition I mentioned earlier? Yeah, personal  interpretation. Keyword being personal. Each of us views the world through our own eyes. We make decisions based on our own understanding.

Changing Your Personal Interpretation

Oftentimes I find myself looking at someone and thinking,  I simply do not understand.  This is usually followed by a series of, Why would you do that?  What were you thinking? type questions. I am sure if I were to ask some people those questions I might begin to get a better understanding of the situation. Now that does not mean I will agree.  It simply means I get why. 1+1 is now equalling two.  I am able to connect the dots.  I can see the whole picture now.

Gaining a better understanding of people and their behaviors can help us to work together. I am not saying it is the solution to problems surrounding hate and other social issues, but it is a start.  If your understanding of a situation is tainted in any way, then you will not be able to see the whole picture. Learning about different cultures, medical conditions, and personalities can change your understanding about people. Remember it is your personal interpretation that determines how you view people. The more knowledge you have about people the better your interpretation will be.

Gain a better understanding about people today. It just might help you with your annoying coworker, your evil boss, your lazy spouse, your troubled teen, your foreign neighbor, the girl or guy you have a crush on, your divorced or widowed parent who is dating, the unprofessional cashier at Walmart. I can go on, but I think you get the point. A better understanding of people leads to a better society.

Daily Prompt: Blank

Blank stares
Blank faces
Blank checks
Blank pages

My mind went blank just as I was about to speak. No words came out, but there was no one to see. Speechless and speech-less, being so unprepared. No one would witness, because no one had cared.

My mind is full and I’m not holding back. I say all the things be it fiction or fact. I feel I’m doing great, but that’s not what the case is. Just a small crowd of blank stares and blank faces.

Blank stares
Blank faces
Blank checks
Blank pages

All of their books are selling. They’ll be classics for ages. While I just sit here with my pen and blank pages.  Blank checks, book deals, and fans it’s outrageous. And I’m just here with my pen and blank pages.

Empty crowds and being misunderstood. My audience targeting skills just wasn’t that good. Now my pen is moving. I have book deals and fans on deck. My books are sold out, and now I have a blank check!

Never give up on your dreams! You will get rejected while others succeed. Don’t ever let that stop you from creating and doing what you love.

Go Take a Walk Outside: Outside Looking In

image

We often find ourselves in a place where we cannot seem to figure out what to do in a certain situation. We consult with friends, family, co-workers, teachers, therapists, and sometimes complete strangers! All of this is done to gain insight to make a decision that we simply cannot make on our own. When our backs are against the wall everything moves quickly. The room spins.  We see what is in front of us and what is in our peripherals. This is why we are unable to calm down, think, and come up with a solution.

Are you tired of saying, Why didn’t I think of that? Well that makes sense! Oh,  I see!, along with any number of Ah ha!  phrases everytime a member of your support team solves all of your problems?  If you are, then read on.  This just might help you out the next time your back is against the wall.

image

The difference between you and your support team during a difficult situation is location. Your placement during tough times is right there in the trenches. While others are viewing your situation from the outside. It is a lot easier to solve a problem when you are able to see every aspect of the situation. We can all tell the lady in the scary movies to avoid going up the stairs. We can all tell our friends to avoid a certain resturant because of poor service. We can all warn our co-workers of the traffic on the way to work.  Why is this possible? Simple. Because we have already been there. Also, because we are now on the outside looking in.

image

It is now time for you to take a walk outside. Take a walk outside and see what everyone else sees.  Meaning, remove yourself from the situation and look at what is really going on around you. You have to get a better view, a better idea of what is really happening in your life.  If you are constantly coping with the stresses of life, and never stop to take inventory of your life. You will never be able to figure out what is really going on.

Let’s just say you are having financial problems.  I’m sure anyone who is on the outside will be able to solve your money woes quickly! Why?  Because they are not tied to your lifestyle. They don’t need that pricey car. They don’t need all of the channels the cable provider is willing to shove down your throat. Those on the outside recognize reality over “necessity”. It’s also easier to recognize error when one has made and corrected those same behaviors.

image

It’s time to let go of your stress and go take a walk outside! It is time to view your life the way other’s may view it. It is time to slow down and observe from the outside and realize what is really unfolding in your life!

Vision in Progress

image

I’m in a place where nothing makes much sense.  I don’t have a game plan. I just take it day by day.  This really scares me. I don’t like the unknown. I know I can’t predict the future, but I used to feel as if I were in control of it. Everything is spiraling out of control. I am lost.  Every day feels wasted.  Wasted because it was the same as the day before. This stagnation is taking a toll on me.  I need to regain control. I need to have a plan. I need to have an idea of what’s out in the distance. I need a sign. A shadow. A silhouette. A distinct sound.  A feeling. A voice. A vision.  A  vision of what’s to come. A vision of a plan. A vision of a new, bolder, better day.

image

I need a vision of tomorrow. Not that Deja Vu vision of events that I’m pretty sure occurred and leave me feeling a deep sense of confusion. Not that vision of anticipation. Anticipation: dream-like symptoms turned nightmare.  Not that vision of what I want.  No not again. But that vision of what’s lost.  That vision of the missing mission.  Yes, that vision.  The one I didn’t conjure up in my head or in my heart.  That vision that is firmly planted in my minds eye and transitions to my brain. That vision that is then processed in the various areas of my brain. Then I will be able to see it.  I will be able to feel it.  I will be able to hear it.  Olfaction will be introduced to the vision gradually.  Perhaps it will also have  gustatory sensations.

Until then.
Life.
Is a vision in progress.

Truth in Disguise

I originally posted this a few years ago and today’s Daily Prompt made me think about it. I decided to add to it and incorporate the word “mask”. I hope everyone enjoys it. Especially since I don’t usually write poetry.

image

You tell me what you want me to hear
Even though you’re full of lies
But the truth is what I want to hear
Not the truth in disguise.

You don’t want to hurt me
Therefore you lie when I ask
When will you tell me
The truth behind the mask

The Fog

It is unclear what lies ahead. I am uncertain with each step forward. I cannot see what is right before me,  and I can hardly make out what I have left behind.  One foot in front of the other. Taking my time as I move forward into the unknown. Nothing I recognize yet, but everything seems familiar.

There is a break in The Fog, but only for a split second. Immediately, I am blinded just as quickly as the unknown was visible. What did I see?  Why did I not see more? Unprepared for the abrupt change before my eyes, my brain was unable to interpret what my eyes had viewed in the rapid change that occurred right in front of me.

image

The Fog is now denser than ever. I can no longer find my way.  Lost in this white darkness I feel trapped. I need more support. I reach out and feel around in this mysterious place as I walk forward. One foot in front of the other. One foot in front of the other. Slowy, I am able to see past my hands.  A gradual steady lifting of The Fog gives me a sense of hope.

The Fog has lifted and darkness is upon me.  Only two streets lined with street lights greet me.  I have reached a fork in the road. What do I do now? I can see clearly and I still do not know what to do. I guess I will use the senses and resources I have available. Be observant. And as always, one step at a time. One foot in front of the other. Just as I did…in The Fog.

Ghostly Giggle

As Hailey sat on her bed reading Moonlit Ally, a book she recently picked up from a local bookstore, she decided to take a break from reading to call her parents. Hailey’s mom and dad were out of town for the weekend, and tonight is the first night she would be home alone in her sixteen years of existence. She leaves a message on her dad’s voicemail, and heads to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Hailey returns to her room, plops down on her bed and picks up her book to dive back into the fictitious world created from her book.

(phone vibrating)

“Hello? ”
“Hi Sweetie, how’s everything at home?”
“Everything’s great,  mom!  I have been so into this book,  I completely lost track of time! ”
“What are you reading?”
Moonlit Ally,  that new book by Rick Houseman.”
“I heard that’s a real page turner. I will have to read it when we get back home. Well,  I was just returning your call. Your dad said you called. I can see everything is fine, so one of us will call you in the morning.”
“Ok mom.  Sounds great. Tell Dad I said hi,  bye and goodnight!”
“I will. Goodnight Sweetie.”
“Goodnight Mom.”

As Hailey hangs up with her mom,  she hears a faint giggle in the hallway.  She becomes very still and quiet. I must be hearing things,  she thought. Hailey ignored the sound she may or may not have heard,  shrugged it off and decided she had read enough for the night. She pulled back the covers on her bed,  and nestled beneath the layers of sheets and blankets. She turned off her lamp and, closed her eyes.

Just as Hailey is falling asleep, she hears the giggle again.  This time it wasn’t faint at all.  This time it wasn’t in the hall.  This time it was obvious that Hailey was not home alone after all.  Hailey laid very still in bed. Frozen. Frozen with fear.  There it was again. The same giggle, but this time she was able to locate the sound. It was coming from her closet. Should I get up?  Should I lay here and die from being frozen with fear?  Will this ghostly giggle kill me if I get up?  Hell,  will it kill me if I stay in this bed? Ughhhh!!! C’mon Hailey think!!!  You are sixteen acting like you are six,  get a grip!  Ok… I’m going to get up. No one is here…just me.

image

After a moment of mentally debating with herself, Hailey finally got the courage to turn on the lamp and get out of bed.  Once again she hears the giggle as clearly as she hears herself breathing. Frozen mid step,  her breathing was decreased as she was paralyzed with fear.  What am I doing?  Why did I get up?  This is real life girl, not a book!!  I should have called the cops. I don’t even have a weapon. Why didn’t I call the cops?!

After another self debate,  Hailey walks slowly towards her closet. Her legs shaking beneath her. Her chest tightening with each step.  She gulps with each breath. When did my bed get so far away from my closet? Finally,  she reaches the door. The giggle begins again. It is now one continues ghostly giggle seeping through the crack between the two closet doors. All fear a side,  Hailey grabs each door handle, flings the doors wide open, and screams loudly into closet with her eyes tightly shut. The giggle continues, but now  errupts into laughter. Hailey opens her eys and to her surprise, she finds her cousin/BFF, Breah crying laughing on the floor of her closet.

“BREAH?!?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!?!”
“Hailey, I am so sorry!!” (laughing continues) “But, I just HAD to get you back from that April Fools prank you played on me!”
“I almost had a heart attack!” Yelled Hailey,  who was now laughing as well.
“You should have seen your face!  Priceless!”
“How did you do all of this?”

Hailey and Breah are now sitting on the floor of Hailey’s closet.

“Well,  I knew Auntie Karen,  and Uncle Brad would be going out of town this weekend leaving you home alone for the first time in the history of Hailey Rae Lansing.  So,  I told my mom and dad that I would come keep you company this weekend. When I texted you and you said you were in the bookstore, I already knew I had time to get in and get ready to pull off the ultimate prank. And you didn’t disappoint either. You stayed at the bookstore FOREVER!”
“Ha!  I really did!  Go on, Prankmaster Breah.”
“Ok,  so I am in the guest bedroom’s walkin closet. You know, just catching up on Orange is the New Black and snacking on some Airheads. And, you finally came home.  I let you get settled, and decided to wait until it was late enough.”
“Ok,  so wait.  When did you get in my closet? And how did you giggle in the hallway and you were in my closet?”
“When you went to take a shower, I took that time to move into your room.  I recorded myself giggling while you were still at the bookstore.  I put my old cellphone in the hallway behind the plant in the corner before I came in here.”
“But, how did you make your old phone go off. It’s disconnected, right?”
“Hellooo?  I do have your Wi-Fi password!”
“Oh. Right! Proceed!”
“K.  Now, if you must know…I set my email ringtone to the giggle I recorded on my old phone. Sent myself an email and BOOM, low hidden giggle! ”
“Ughhh!!! I am going to kill you!
Both girls begin laughing.
“And the rest was all me sitting in your junky closet, Hailey.  One giggle after another!”
