The Outsiders

They say you’re never alone as long as you have people around.
I beg to differ.

I was just fine having my family. And plenty of time to myself.

It wasn’t until The Outsiders were introduced.

I would share with them a part of me. Only for them to take off and leave with it.

I even cared for some of The Outsiders.

Their lives either ended too soon or their parents uprooted them to another state.

I even loved some of The Outsiders. They were the ones who caused the most pain.

These Outsiders would turn their feelings on and off as they pleased. This was hard to accept when my feelings were always on.
I never felt so alone in my life.

The more Outsiders I seem to let in, the more alone I seem to feel.

They say you’re never alone as long as you have people around.

As long as those people aren’t The Outsiders.

Oh No, Please, Don’t Pick Up Your Shoes

What is chaos?  I’m glad you asked.

Chaos is the world around me.  I want things done a certain way.  I want things in their designated places.  Oh, but everyone does not share the same passion for organizing that I have. Enter chaos.

If this is you…seek help from a professional Organizationologist STAT!

Exhibit A: Shoes in the middle of the floor. Nothing in my mind says that smack dab in the floor’s center should lie a pair of shoes.

Exhibit B: Empty cartons, boxes, bags, etc. strategically placed back in their spots. (NOW you know how to pick things up.)

Exhibit C: Lights, Camera, Action! More like Lights, Television, Tablet! Every possible object powered be electricity or battery will be on in the room …simultaneously…occupied by none other than no one!

Looking for something in a chaotic room is just like trying to find Waldo.

Exhibit D: I can’t find my… Fill in the blank with anything. Yes, anything and everything that is absolutely important to your current survival needs.  Of course you can’t find anything, because you put everything everywhere.

This is just the minor levels of chaos I encounter on a regular daily basis. What brings about chaos in your life? Feel free to share in the comments!

Deeply Into the Unknown

The time is 5:31am and I am just laying here. I am  just laying here with thoughts racing through my head like Usain Bolt running the 100 meters. “What if…?” “But why not…?”  So many scenarios playing out in my mind. These thoughts and scenarios are about my life. A life I have grown to know little about, even though I am the only one who has lived it since birth.

I find myself growing more and more confused every day. My ups are downs. My rights are now wrongs (and lefts). The people I thought I knew. I know longer know. Just when I get accustomed to one thing, it changes. It appears everything I thought I saw was just false images. Images distorted with the reality of a dream I once knew.

Now it is 5:48am and I am just laying here. I am just laying here with uncertainty in my mind and fear in my heart. I am scared to turn the page for fear of what it might reveal. I dread the dawn of a new day, as I am terrified to uncover yet another image distorted with the reality of a dream I once knew. Therefore I shall   dream. I shall dream during the day just as I do during the night. I shall remove myself from all that is known and delve deeply into the unknown.

The Big Switch

I’ve been #TeamAndroid for almost five years. I loved every minute of it. With those awesome Galaxy devices that are so easy to figure out. Not to mention endless FREE apps! Those days are no longer. I was looking like those Confused Mr. Krabs memes on day one with my new device.

Well, I am now #TeamiPhone. Pump your breaks. I haven’t pledged my allegiance to that fruit just yet. However I am giving it a chance.

There are things I miss, but I’m adjusting. Like the keyboards for example. I now understand why there are no punctuations on texts or posts. Because they aren’t visible on the stock keyboard. Fix: Third party apps! Now granted I haven’t found my keyboard soulmate…I am pretty satisfied with this Typiora keyboard.

My next beef with the fruit (so not kosher) is the lack of a notification bar! Somebody help me deal!! I know I kept my notification bar virtually empty, but it was nice to see the temperatures for my weather apps! 😤

Notice how full and cluttered this notification bar is.

Ok, pouting aside, the clutter free bar at the top of the screen makes me smile! Seeing people’s Android phones with notification icons for 5 week old voice mails and emails would drive me crazy! I don’t know how anyone can stand to see that. 👏👏👏 Thank you Apple for reducing the amount of notification icon hoarders across the world!

Finally, and most importantly, the battery life on my iPhone is amazing! 🔋🔋🔋One charge can get me through the day pretty well! Well that’s it. I am currently a member of #TeamiPhone! Somethings still have me confused…but it’s nothing Google can’t fix. #LowKeyTeamAndroid

Fait Accompli

Is total control really worth the price?

Photo Created Using: flamingtext.com

Most people don’t wake up in the morning knowing EXACTLY how their day will unfold. Well, I’m not most people. My name is Alyssa, and I have total control over how my day goes.

While most people are dreaming while sleeping, I am putting together tomorrow.

There is just one problem with this special “gift”. I have to terminate one person before I go back to sleep to create my tomorrow.

Now when I say “terminate”, I don’t mean fire or let someone go from my life. I literally mean terminate. You know, as in put an end to  one’s life.

Now I bet you’re a bit confused. Let me explain.

It all started on a hot and humid summer day in a small town along a little known bayou in Louisiana.

I began that morning griping about the weather the minute I stepped outside and my hair instantly frizzed up and my skin immediately began to glisten with sweat.

I cursed summer!

My neighbor, Mrs. Langlois, was outside sipping her coffee and judging people as she religiously did every morning. She heard me despise the season and beelined straight towards me.

“Well, good morning young lady. What’s got you a cussin’ so early in the day?”

I really wasn’t in the mood to deal with “The Mouth of the South” so I just decided to tell the truth and let her get back to playing judge and jury with the rest of the neighborhood.

“Good morning! I’m just disgusted with this heat and humidity. That’s all.”
“Well young lady, if you don’t like it do something about it!”, replied Mrs. Langlois.

At this point I’m convinced she wasn’t JUST drinking coffee. What on God’s green Earth was I supposed to do to cancel summer? Hell, I couldn’t even dodge my Public Investigator neighbor!

“Well, Mrs. Langlois you and I both know that’s impossible. I’ll just deal with it like I’ve been doing for all 21 years of my life.”

Mrs. Langlois grasped my right hand in her Little Old Lady hands, looked me dead in my eyes, and said, “Fait Accompli.” She then lowered my hand, and said, “Make it a good one, young lady!”

And just like that, Neighborhood Watch was marching back to her perch to resume her routine snooping.

I was already thirty minutes behind schedule for the day, so I got in my car and left.
Disturbed by Mrs. Langlois’ little performance back at my house, I decided I would Google “Fait Accompli”.

I grabbed my cell from my purse that sat in the passenger seat and Googled the words that were strangely uttered by my eavesdropping neighbor.

Caught up in what my search yielded, I wasn’t paying attention to the road and slammed right into the car in front of me.

Damn!

After dealing with the police, repair shops, my insurance company, and my guilt, I was done for the day.

I drove my damaged car into my driveway and went straight into my house.

Something was off.

Where was Tammy Talkalot? She should have greeted me at my door to tell me about the wreck I caused. Oh well, it’s better she didn’t. I had no more energy for her.

Awaken from my slumber I noticed my house was cooler than it usually was during the summer. I grabbed another blanket and went back to sleep.

The next day I woke up ready to fight with the heat and humidity. I made sure my hair was in a nice frizz resistant bun and headed out the door.
As I walked outside, I instantly froze. What the hell? The cool crisp autumn air whipped against my exposed skin. The leaves crunched under my flip flops. Those same leaves were brown.

Brown like the trees that stood before me. I looked around me and fall was in full bloom!

My confusion was interrupted by a little voice that belonged to my overly layered meddlesome neighbor, Mrs. Langlois.

She was making her way over…AGAIN! I stood there and just waited.

“Good morning, young lady! I hope you are enjoying the weather.”

Okay, so now I KNEW I was not the only one who was seeing and feeling fall.

“Good morning Mrs. Langlois. I am enjoying it.”

“That’s great dear, enjoy your day. And make it a good one.”

She made her way back home and left me even more confused. I looked at my phone to check for news about this weather.

But I was met with other news, rather strange news. The guy whose car I wrecked was dead. There it was in black and white. “Local Marine, Pvt. Keith Fontaine, Died While Fighting For His Country Overseas.”

How was that possible? He has been home for months. I accidentally ran into the back of his car yesterday. None of this was making any sense.

‪I ran back towards my house and it just hit me. My damaged car was no longer damaged.

I felt everything spinning around me. I was so confused I thought I was going to faint. I went in the house and sat down on the sofa.

What was going on?
I ran over to Mrs. Langlois’ house. She was outside as I expected.

“Mrs. Langlois, we need to talk!”, I demanded.

She smiled proudly, then nonchalantly replied, “I know.”

Daily Prompt: Whisper

I hear you, but I don’t know what you are saying. Are you talking to me? Am I even supposed to know what you are saying? Left in the dark.  I am out of the loop.  I hear you, but I don’t know what you are saying

I can hear a voice out in the distance speaking softly.  I get closer and try to find out who is speaking and what he or she is saying. Where are you? Who are you? I hear you, but I don’t know what you are saying.

image

All of this time I thought I was here alone. Only to find out someone else is present. I walk the rows between the headstones in the direction of the faint voice.  My curiosity is definitely getting the best of me. Who could it be?  Who is this voice talking to?

It is difficult to make out anything in this dark hazy cemetery. I continue to follow the voice as it becomes slightly understandable as I approach it.  I can’t see anyone yet.  Nothing. Not even a shadow. I am now upon the voice. There is no one there. Just a whisper.  I hear you, and I know what you are saying.

Please come visit me.  I am alone. These are the words of the whisper.

Life Lesson: Try Not to Lose What is Hard to Find

I hate when I lose things. Especially when it is something that is hard to find once it is lost. Things, I can honestly say I don’t lose too often. My brain is pretty good at keeping up with things, but what it struggles with are my emotions, feelings, and thoughts.
I seem to lose my temper, my mind, my train of thought, my way, my patience, and my confidence without blinking! And of course those are the things that seem like only Jesus Himself can return to me. I can’t ever seem to find them on my own!

I know each of these”losses” are all a matter of changing my habits and my perception. I’m working on that. It’s just the one that seems out of reach is my confidence. I can’t even backtrack my steps to figure out exactly where I lost it! I know the loss of of my confidence was a long gradual process, and it will be a long gradual process to get it back.
This journey to rebuild myself, and locate all of those feelings, thoughts, and emotions that remain at large, is definitely a difficult one. It seems as if once progress is made in one department a regression is unfolding in another. I consider giving up on a daily bases, but for now I am still on this wild goose chase of a journey to rebuild myself!

Changing Your Personal Interpretation: Keys to Better Understanding

image

I have to admit. I love the one word Daily Prompts.  Why?  Because I enjoy pulling words apart and learning more about its meaning. I also feel the power and impact one word is capable of possessing. Each day writers create beautiful peices surrounding one word. Bloggers have been driven by one word. One word that gives birth to poems that reach our souls. One word is capable of creating a moving story or entertaining tale. One word can make a change in your life.

Today’s word is understanding. Dictionary.com uses “personal interpretation” as part of its definition of the word. Personal interpretation is as simple as it reads. A person’s interpretation of fill in the blank. The way you see it.  How you understand it to be.

image

People have been dealing with other people since people have been people. Somehow this has not changed the fact that we still cannot get along.  The reason being…understanding.  Remember that dictionary.com definition I mentioned earlier? Yeah, personal  interpretation. Keyword being personal. Each of us views the world through our own eyes. We make decisions based on our own understanding.

Changing Your Personal Interpretation

Oftentimes I find myself looking at someone and thinking,  I simply do not understand.  This is usually followed by a series of, Why would you do that?  What were you thinking? type questions. I am sure if I were to ask some people those questions I might begin to get a better understanding of the situation. Now that does not mean I will agree.  It simply means I get why. 1+1 is now equalling two.  I am able to connect the dots.  I can see the whole picture now.

image

Gaining a better understanding of people and their behaviors can help us to work together. I am not saying it is the solution to problems surrounding hate and other social issues, but it is a start.  If your understanding of a situation is tainted in any way, then you will not be able to see the whole picture. Learning about different cultures, medical conditions, and personalities can change your understanding about people. Remember it is your personal interpretation that determines how you view people. The more knowledge you have about people the better your interpretation will be.

Gain a better understanding about people today. It just might help you with your annoying coworker, your evil boss, your lazy spouse, your troubled teen, your foreign neighbor, the girl or guy you have a crush on, your divorced or widowed parent who is dating, the unprofessional cashier at Walmart. I can go on, but I think you get the point. A better understanding of people leads to a better society.

I Remember A Day

image

I remember a day. A day when I could wake up,  get ready, and wait. I would wait for someone to drive me to this place and that place. I remember a day when my main goal was to maintain straight A’s.  This was the same day I would dance for hours, read at will, and sing without concern of the harsh criticism from others. During this day I could not relate to the songs on the radio, but I would sing them as if I could. Oh how I remember the day when my only competition was my brother. My brother who is only older by one year. If I could beat him at racing,  I was the fastest person on Earth! I remember a day.  A day without worry, anxiety, depression, self esteem issues, deadlines, gossip, drama, death, pain, broken hearts, health problems… I remember a day. A day in the life of my childhood.
